Angela Massey maintains an active career as a solo artist, chamber artist, orchestral musician, and instructor. Her debut album, The Elements, has been described as “beautiful and enchanting, the performances on this CD are magical!” by Jeanne Baxtresser, former principal flute of the New York Philharmonic. As a soloist, she is invited to perform over sixty recitals each year with past performances including the Kosciuszko Foundation in New York City, Legacy Hall at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts, and the National Flute Association Convention. She has been a featured guest artist for the Tryon Concert Association, Asheville Chamber Music Series, Tuesday's Music Live, Chamber Music Raleigh, and the Artist Series of Tallahassee. Outside of the United States, she has performed in England, France, Germany, Italy, Romania, and Switzerland.
Ms. Massey was awarded prizes in the Alexander and Buono International Competition, Frank Bowen Competition, Myrna Brown Competition, Tiziano Rosetti Competition in Switzerland, and a certificate in the Gheorghe Dima International Music Competition in Romania. In regard to chamber music, she serves as the Artistic Director and flutist of the Astralis Chamber Ensemble. Maintaining an interest in new music, she has been selected for the dedication of new works by Daniel Dorff, Herman Beeftink, Andrey Rubtsov, Jim Stephenson, Grigor Arakelian, Alexander Boostrom, Nathan Hudson, and Lance Hulme.
Ms. Massey has held flute positions with the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, the Venice Symphony, and performed with the Sarasota Orchestra, The Florida Orchestra, guest principal flute with the Brevard Symphony Orchestra (FL), Choral Society of the Hamptons (NY), Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra (SC), South Carolina Philharmonic, Savannah Philharmonic, and Symphony Orchestra Augusta. She is the flute instructor at Florida Gulf Coast University and maintains a flute studio in Fort Myers, FL as well as an international online studio. In the past, she has served as flute instructor at Presbyterian College and maintained active teaching studios in Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, and New York.
Ms. Massey received a certificate in Advanced Flute Studies from Carnegie Mellon University, Master of Music degree in flute performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and Bachelor of Music degree in flute performance from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her instructors have been Alberto Almarza, Jeanne Baxtresser, Martha Kitterman, Jack Wellbaum, and Brooks de Wetter-Smith. She has performed in masterclasses and completed additional study with Randy Bowman, Linda Chesis, James Galway, Stefán Höskuldsson, Eleanor Lawrence, and Jim Walker.
